Tim Berners-Lee was born in 1955 in Britain, He is a software engineer and a computer scientist.
In the 1980s Tim Berners-Lee worked in CERN, an important laboratory in Switzerland.
He invented 'hypertext' to help scientists share information.
In 1989 he wrote a paper called "Information Management." He wrote about his idea for sharing information across the whole world. He called this the "world wide web." (WWW)
The world's first website was launched in 1991.
It was: The World Wide Web project (cern.ch) This was the start of the internet.
